Photography, art, technology, news & the world wide web
My name is Wade and this is my blog. It’s about photography, art, technology and the web. After a stint in the army, I got started in photography about ten years ago. Since then I’ve worked in Asia, the Middle East, the Pacific, Europe and the United Kingdom. I joined the the Sydney Morning Herald in 2003 and I was based in London during 2007 and 2008. I was the Herald’s Photographic Editor until 2011. I’ve shot commercial assignments for clients like Deutsche Bank and Microsoft. Now I run the commercial photography outfit StillsGroup.

Asanka Brendon Ratnayake This reminds me of a story recently at at the Queens dinner at CHOGM. When the official photographs were released, the photo of Sri Lankan President Rajapaksa shaking hands...
Ted McDonnell Wade, you make some very valid points, but I do not agree with your veiled premise that today’s journalist is better than yesterdays. In fact, that is far from the truth....
Richard I think we are in agreement. Im probably not explaining myself properly, I mean anti photography in terms of breaking from tradition. Photography seems to be stooped in rules around what...
Kevin Griffin I wouldnt agree of it being anti-photography, for what is photography to begin with? He has used the medium in yet another different way, portraying its use, as yes, id agree maybe as...
Richard There is a lot of gursky stuff I like. I saw his work at gallery of NSW a few years back. The supermarket pic was epic. They need to be viewed as intended, printed large to really...
Kevin Griffin Well…its good to see photography being recognized as a medium of expression by collectors who can afford it, id certainly pay a few quid to go view the vintage!
Kevin Griffin I like it, I like it alot, the simple message in this is great. It seems to yell alot about photography today, how it was manipulated really makes one question photography and what is...
Neerav That photo is bland and has no redeeming features IMHO. I’m guessing his previous sold photos were more remarkable?
Juan I hate digital photography,is superficial and fake…now every stupid people have a digital camera.
Rob Walls Know precisely what you mean, Wade. Many years ago, I tried to break through that wall of indifference to the recording of political history. After weeks of negotiation with the Whitlam...
David Bro WL, Your comparison is Yes and No—for US at least…. bro
Dr Chris Westinghouse Pete Souza is a brilliant photojournalist and has been associated with White House photography for a long time – before being appointed Barack Obama’s offical...
Richard Lord I have attempted to work with Model Mayhem models for two years and I have quit in exasperation. It is a site for young women whose attitude is “I put on a pretty dress. Takes a...
Saira Great post Wade but I have to say that Model Mayhem is something you should stay away from if you want to actually get some decent models. Instead, photographers should approach casting...
Steve Marshall lake george, NSW, looking east south east.
Kevin Griffin This advice should be taken in the right light, it has greater value then money, which is experience and knowledge. I’ve been told this “tip” and this argument a...
Mark Nesbit As a military photographer, this is a subject that often comes up. It is a catch 22 situation for any photographer as if you help with a casualty there will be criticism for not getting...
John Densky well, not to oversimplify a complicated matter but “there’s only one person who has to live with the consequences…” about covers it for me.
Louis So you went with Hoya? Let me know the results.
Rob Walls Great post, Wade. I actually ended up in the small claims tribunal with a PR client who claimed the right to pay only half of my invoiced fee because they said I had only worked for 15...
Tamara Gentuso So Wade, have you got any insurance company suggestions for pro-grade photography equipment–for both stateside and overseas work? Thanks!
